This is in rebuttal to the piece that was written by Alice Arambarri in the Aug. 7 press letters to the editor. You do realize that none of the guns used in any of the real mass shootings was purchased at a gun show or through a private party. All of these firearms were purchased legally from a licensed gun dealer and went through a check in the FBI NICS database prior the purchase. Universal background checks would not have made any difference in these cases.

It is just more encumbrance to lawful commerce with no impact on these tragedies. Another political knee jerk reaction, “We have to do something” mentality. Spend more resources on mental health if you really want to help.
