ROYAL CITY — When longtime Royal City resident Warren Small heard that the old hotel in Royal City was being rebuilt and the owner was looking for a restaurant, he knew that he had an opportunity to not only fulfill a dream, but to also offer a new restaurant option for the Royal City community.
“I have wanted a restaurant for as long as I can remember,” said Small, owner of Smulligan’s Pizza and BBQ. “We thought it would be a perfect opportunity to do what we wanted to do.”
Smulligan’s Pizza and BBQ opened in the middle of April and has enjoyed a great response from the public.
“It’s been great,” Small said. “Everybody loves the food. They love the fact that there is another option in Royal City. A lot of people know me. They know that I’ve been doing barbecuing and events for a lot of years.”
Smulligan’s offers eight varieties of pizza, as well as a make-your-own pizza.
“One of the things that differentiates us from other pizza places is that we have three pizzas with barbecue,” said Small. “There’s smoked bacon chicken ranch, the Texan with smoked brisket and the Carolina with pulled pork.”
They also offer smoked brisket sandwiches and pulled pork sandwiches. Pork ribs are also available on Saturdays when Small is not catering an event. Sides include homemade potato salad, coleslaw, barbecued beans, fresh-cut curly fries, a salad and gelato.
Both Small and his wife Cynthia work at the restaurant. Small also owns Fab Tech Manufacturing, a fabrication shop, in Othello.
Smulligan’s Pizza and BBQ is located at 112 Evergreen Ave. NW. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/smulligans.
