2019-20 conference
schedule
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference has announced the 2019-2020 women’s basketball conference schedule.
Gonzaga has won 14 of the last 15 regular-season West Coast Conference titles, including the 2018-19 title, and seven of the last 11 tournament championships.
The season begins once again immediately following the Christmas break, and for the first time in four seasons, the Zags will open their conference slate at home.
Gonzaga begins its quest for their 16th conference championship on Sunday, Dec. 29, against Portland. The rest of the season is in the traditional Thursday and Saturday format. The Bulldogs travel to BYU and San Diego on Jan. 2 and 4.
The Zags are back in Spokane on Jan. 9 and 11, to host Saint Mary’s and Pacific. Gonzaga heads to the Bay Area on Jan. 16 and 18 for games at Santa Clara and San Francisco. A four-game homestand follows for the Bulldogs, beginning with Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount on Jan. 23 and 25.
Gonzaga opens the second half of conference play versus San Diego on Jan. 30, before welcoming BYU on Feb. 1. The Zags visit Pacific and Saint Mary’s on Feb. 6 and 8.
San Francisco makes its annual trip to the McCarthey Athletic Center on Feb. 13. GU honors its seniors on Feb. 15, against Santa Clara. The Bulldogs end the regular season with three straight road games, at LMU (Feb. 20), Pepperdine (Feb. 22) and Portland on Feb. 29.
The West Coast Conference Championships will follow March 5-10 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Once again this season, the top two seeds receive a double bye to the Monday semifinals.
Game times, and the Zags’ non-conference schedule, will be posted at a later date.
Vandals add Novsek to
men’s basketball staff
MOSCOW — Idaho men’s basketball bolstered its staff heading into next season, bringing in Doug Novsek as an assistant coach.
“We are incredibly fortunate to add someone with the level of talent and wealth of experience that Doug will bring to our program,” Idaho interim coach Zac Claus said. “He is a wonderful man that brings a high level of trust and integrity. Our players will benefit and improve from his vast knowledge and terrific work ethic from day one. This is a great day for us to have Doug join the Vandals.”
Novsek also spent nine season at the University of Nevada, alongside Claus. He began his time as an assistant before being elevated to associate head coach for his final six seasons.
While in Reno, he helped lead the Wolf Pack to three Western Athletic Conference regular season champions and five postseason appearances. Novsek also coached six players that would go on to the NBA, including first round selections JaVale McGee and Luke Babbitt.
Idaho football sets times
for kickoff this season
MOSCOW — All 12 kickoff times for the Idaho football season are set and single-game tickets are on sale now to the general public. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone at 208-885-6466 or by visiting the Idaho Athletic Ticket Office.
Idaho’s three remaining home games — Weber State (Oct. 5), Cal Poly (Nov. 2) and Sacramento State (Nov. 16) — will kick off at 2 p.m. Road games against Portland State (Oct. 12) and Northern Arizona (Nov. 23) will also kick at 2 p.m.. The regular-season finale against the Lumberjacks is at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the home opener against Central Washington (Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.) start at $10, while general admission seats to see the Vandals take on Weber State (Oct. 5; 2 p.m.) and Cal Poly (Nov. 2; 2 p.m.) are $20.
“We’ve heard from a number of our fans about their interest in revisiting night games,” said interim athletic director Pete Isakson. “The opportunity to play in the evening presented itself for our home opener and we took advantage. With Washington State playing earlier that afternoon, it will make for a full day of football on the Palouse, alleviate traffic concerns and showcase the best our community has to offer to thousands of visitors during a wonderful time of year in Moscow.”
Tickets for Idaho’s home games against Eastern Washington (Sept. 21; noon), Idaho State (Oct. 19; 2:30 p.m.) and Sacramento State (Nov. 16; 2 p.m.) start at $30 per seat.

Eastern football to appear
on SWX four times this fall
There will be four opportunities for Eastern Washington football fans in the region to watch the Eagles live on SWX TV, and five other chances on other television entities.
The first SWX broadcast will be Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. when Eastern hosts Lindenwood in the home opener for the Eagles. Eastern’s Hall of Fame Game on Sept. 28 against North Dakota will be aired on SWX starting at 2 p.m. The broadcasts continue on Nov. 2 (Northern Arizona) and Nov. 23 (Portland State) in a pair of games which begin at 1 p.m.
SWX, a sister station of KHQ in Spokane, is available over-air on channels 6.2 in Spokane/Cheney/Coeur d’Alene/Sandpoint/Lewiston. The station is also available via Comcast 306/112 in Spokane; Spectrum 1245 in Coeur d’Alene & Pullman/Moscow and Northland Cable 115 in Sandpoint.
Sam Adams, sports director at SWX, will handle the play-by-play duties for SWX through much of the year. The main analyst is Bill Ames.
Eastern opens the season at Washington in a game which will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks at noon on Aug. 31. Eastern’s game at Sacramento State on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. will be aired on Eleven Sports, which is available on various platforms including DirecTV channel 623.
