COEUR d’ALENE — Superheroes, supervillains, cartoons, anime, comic books, science fiction, video games, roleplaying and every geek culture in between.

Coeur d'Con 2019 is coming.

"I feel like we've got a pretty good spread this year," Coeur d'Con public relations coordinator J.D. Smithson said Tuesday.

The local version of comic-book conventions like Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con or Comic-Con International in San Diego will return at 10 a.m. Saturday to the Coeur d'Alene Public Library.

This is the fifth year for Coeur d'Con, a free, all-ages event that invites one and all to celebrate the stories, characters, artwork, books, movies and games they love.

"It's a crazy day," Smithson said. "We're right in the middle of 'con' season, so people are really geared up. They've gotten the costume for one con and they want to wear it again. It's like a wedding dress you can bring out and wear once a year."

Graphic artist Kit Seaton, a former Lake City High School student, will be present for a meet and greet.

“She’s involved with Marvel now, so that’s huge," Smithson said. "She’ll be hosting a panel for us. We’re so excited."

A cosplay (dressing up as characters) contest will be held for youth, teens, adults and self-proclaimed professionals with registration from 10 to 11:30 a.m., public voting at 1 p.m. and a contest show at 3 p.m.

The day will also include video-game competitions for two Nintendo all-time favorites, "Mario Kart" and "Super Smash Bros." A medieval re-enactment by the Canton of Silverhart will take place all day on the library lawn. Con-goers will also enjoy a board game café, 8-bit crafts with perler beads, a virtual reality experience, presentations and other activities throughout the day.

"It hits different audiences," said Coeur d'Alene Library young adult coordinator Angela Flock, lead coordinator of Coeur d'Con. "We hit every fandom that we can, from video games to comics to cosplay to anime. We have a little bit of everything."
