The Meadow Creek Road along the South Fork of the Flathead has been damaged by a washout. The road was damaged last weekend between Larch Creek and Cedar Creek and has caused an emergency closure of the road.

As such, the road is closed to motorized vehicles from Jungle Creek to the intersection of Road 2829, effectively cutting off motorized access to the Meadow Creek Trailhead, one of the main routes into the South Fork of the Flathead region of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Hikers can still reach the South Fork via Trail 80 at the Spotted Bear Ranger Station.

People who must enter the area Meadow Creek closure area need to obtain a special permit.

Contact the Spotted Bear Ranger Station at 406-758-5376. More information is also available at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/flathead/alerts-notices.

The Forest Service has yet to release a timeline for when the road repairs would be completed.
