PVT. LEWIS ENROUTE TO VIETNAM

Pvt. Craig Lewis left Thursday for Fort Lewis, Wash., after a two week leave at his home. He will be enroute to Vietnam after two days of processing at Ft. Lewis. Pvt. Lewis graduated from Sandpoint Senior High and was employed by the Boeing Company in Seattle before entering the Army six months ago. His wife and his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sammons, reside in Sandpoint.

N-B’s PRO FOOTBALL BOARD

Coverage of the town’s famed Pro Football Board will be a regular feature on the News-Bulletin’s sports pages this fall and winter under the by-line of Doug Bopp, creator of the popular device which has drawn great interest among fans of the major league grid sport.

The board is maintained at Riccardo’s whose proprietor, Jack McDonnell, reminds those who wish to participate that they should register as soon as possible in order to get on the board before the 50 available spots are all taken.

Aug. 18, 1919 – PASS ORDINANCE

At Monday’s city council meeting, Alderman Gibson introduced ordinance No. 226, to regulate the construction, alteration and repair of sewer and house drains in Sandpoint. Under a suspension of rules it was given its third reading and passed. It provides that $5 be paid for a permit to connect with a sewer and that all owners of property abutting on sewer lines be required to connect within 60 days after passage of the ordinance or within 60 days after the construction of new sewer lines.

FOREST FIRES INCREASING

During the past week there has been a steady expansion of forest fires throughout this district although no fires in Bonner county are presently reckoned beyond control. Fires in the Priest river and Priest lake areas are well in hand and only the Pack river conflagration shows indications of getting again beyond control. The local forestry office has been sending men to the Lost creek fire in the Coeur d’Alene reservation which has been practically untouched by rain since it started almost two months ago.

CITY BREVITIES

William Ashley, Jr., son of Chairman of the County Commissioners William Ashley, returned home last week after two years of service spent in Uncle Sam’s navy.
