WARDEN — Cryptocurrency and bio-solids were topics of conversation during the regular Warden city council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Currently there is a moratorium on all cryptocurrency businesses in Warden. The council is looking to establish guidelines that would allow the industry to operate in city limits. Until that happens, the moratorium, or temporary ban, that was previously put into place will remain in effect for six months, or until the guidelines are adopted. A public hearing will be held on the moratorium on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

A contract with Boulder Park Inc. and King County for the removal of bio-solids from the waste treatment facility was also approved during the meeting.

“It is a two-part agreement,” said Warden City Clerk Kriss Shuler. “King County has this contract put together with Boulder Park. We’re piggybacking with a big county.”

Boulder Park will remove the bio-solids from Warden’s waste treatment facility and haul them to a land application site in Douglas County.

Council approved the installation of water and sewer lines to three duplexes that are being built by A & K Construction. The duplexes are currently under construction.

Shuler told the council that “the city is working on a funding application for the Transportation Improvement Board for a road preservation project on East First Street.” The water reclamation facility’s annual accreditation application that certifies the lab has been completed. The city is working with the Department of Ecology to test wells around the clean up site at Simplot. A well that is no longer in use is being cleaned after the presence of unwanted chemicals was found. The city is having their other wells tested to ensure the chemical is not present there as well.

Public Works Director Don Edson reported that his crew is preparing for Community Days, which will take place on Labor Day weekend.
