WARDEN — Aliens were the theme of the Summer Celebration at the Warden Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 22.
“We started with aliens and ended with aliens,” said branch librarian Jean Russell. “We did a story time, decorated telescopes and made pool noodle aliens.”
The overall theme for the summer at North Central Regional Library (NCRL) locations was space. The Warden Public Library chose to specialize on aliens for the opening and closing events. As part of the celebration, the end of the program raffle ticket drawings were held as well.
“We gave away two bicycles and stuffed animals with books,” Russell said. “For the teens, we had a tablet and Starbucks cards. The adults had a reading corner gift basket.”
Program participants completed challenges to earn tickets to enter into the drawings. One of the challenges that participants could do was write a book recommendation.
“I have a lot of book recommendations written by kids,” said Russell.
Russell brought more events to the Warden Public Library this summer. She worked in conjunction with the school and the community to get the word out.
“There were events where we read stories about something that had to do with a craft,” Russell said. “We were bringing different things in. Twice we had puppet shows. The PUD did ‘Swimming with the Salmon.’ We had STEM outreach and space science. A theater group did ‘My Mother the Astronaut.’”
The events at the library don’t stop with the end of summer.
“We will continue to have weekly story times with crafts and ATLAS (At The Library After School),” said Russell.
The Warden Public Library is located at 305 S. Main St. in Warden. They can be reached at 509-349-2226.
