The visiting 5A Coeur d’Alene Vikings shut out Sandpoint 4-0 at Pine Street Field on Tuesday afternoon.

“At this point, the most positive takeaway from this game is that all of the mistakes we made are completely fixable,” Sandpoint head coach Tanner French said.

Zander Moore had a one-on-one opportunity against the goalkeeper in the 13th minute, but his shot went wide. French admitted that this sequence could have changed the makeup of the game — given the Vikings scored their first goal of the game two minutes later — yet things didn’t break the team’s way.

“They are starting to understand a little more about how they can change the game while they’re in it,” French said. “Communicating that to their teammates is something they’re completely capable of doing.”

Freshman Roman Jiles had his second complete-game start; he had seven saves.

The Vikings put the game away with a pair of goals in the second-half.

Sandpoint (0-1-1) hosts Stillwater Christian at Memorial Field on Thursday at 6 p.m.

First half — 1, Cd’A, 15:00. 2, Cd’A, 32:00.

Second half — 3, Cd’A, 50:00. 4, Cd’A, 62:00.

Shots on goal — unknown

Saves — Spt, Roman Jiles, 7; Cd’A, unknown
