Alzheimer's Association has new location

Since most of my readers are probably about my age, we’ll lead with the new location of the Alzheimer’s Association in Suite 205 at 2065 W. Riverstone Drive.

In Coeur d’Alene for more than 22 years, the Alzheimer’s Association provides education and support services to people with any type of dementia and their families. These include care consultation, support groups, education programs and more. It is the largest private funder of Alzheimer’s research.

PJ Christo is the North Idaho outreach coordinator, and Joel Loiacono is regional director. Hours here are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Outback Steakhouse closes near I-90

After 23 years of business, Outback Steakhouse has closed just south of Interstate 90 and east of Northwest Boulevard.

The Australian-inspired steak menu began in 1988 in Tampa, Fla. The local place offered a food truck for special events. The large building is now available.

- The Way Back vintage and antiques store has a closing sale until 2020 at 1103 N. Fourth.

- A Burger King is under construction at 3827 N. Ramsey (just south of Kathleen).

- Coeur d’Alene Vision Source will move from 850 Ironwood to a new building at 3879 N. Schreiber Way.

- A new building for Idaho Central Credit Union is under construction at 1327 W. Appleway.

- Bi-Mart will open a new store in the former Stein’s Family Foods building at 16102 N. Highway 41 in Rathdrum.

- Two holiday outlets are open through Dec. 26 in Silver Lake Mall. Sixteen North Idaho pop-up arts and crafts people and See’s Candies people are there.

- The former Burger King building at 216 Appleway has been sold to another fast-food vendor. Rumors are it’s Carl’s Jr., which would move.

- The new Hardwick Hardware is under construction at 3820 E. Mullan in Post Falls.

- A new place in the northeast corner of U.S. 95 and Lancaster will be a Golden Glo Coffee Shop.

- Watch for an interesting development just north of the Government Way Safeway. The developers already have put in a cool water feature and evidently plan to have a coffee stand, car lot and rock shop.

- According to Google sources, these are Washington’s biggest cities: 1-Seattle, 745,000; 2-Spokane, 217,000; 3-Tacoma, 208,000; 4-Vancouver, 175,000; and 5-Bellevue, 141,000.

- The SS Coeur d’Alene Victory was a cargo ship for the U.S. Navy in World War II. First lady Edith Wilson suggested the name when she became “enamored with the little Idaho city” while on tour with the president, according to the Associated Press.
