Boys & Girls Club vandalized

POST FALLS — The Post Falls Boys & Girls Club has reopened to the community after alleged criminal activity over the weekend forced the club to close.
On the evening of Nov. 30, multiple individuals reportedly broke into the Post Falls Boys & Girls Club, causing thousands of dollars in damage. They allegedly stole laptops, a camera and other equipment. They also broke into cabinets, ruined art supplies and wrote obscene messages on the walls in several rooms.
Ryan Davis, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Kootenai County, said the individuals’ actions made him feel “violated.”
“This is a safe place for kids,” he said. “When you have individuals as brazen as these were, it’s disheartening.”
The club was closed Monday so staff could paint over the obscenities on the walls and clean up the damage. During that time, Davis said, hundreds of local kids missed out on access to a safe place.
“I am extremely frustrated that anyone would be so bold,” he said.
Davis said the Boys & Girls Club is working with neighboring facilities to review security footage that might help identify the culprits.
The building is used almost seven days a week, Davis said, and the Boys & Girls Club partners with groups like the Boy Scouts, New Vision High School, Post Falls Parks and Recreation and more.
“We really try to create a community center,” Davis said.
For this reason, it’s important that the Boys & Girls Club be secure at all hours. Davis said the building has been rekeyed and staff are evaluating safety protocols.
As word of the incident spread on social media, Davis said he received an outpouring of support from the community.
“It was a blessing to see the messages come in,” he said. “It’s nice to have the community immediately jump in and ask how they can help.”
The Post Falls Police Department is investigating the incident but declined to comment on the case.
