Can you believe it’s already December? If so, you probably know that it’s time again for downtown Sandpoint’s First Friday! This month is filled with exciting things to see and do. Pend Oreille Arts Council is gearing up for holiday shopping with their annual Winter Art Market, participating downtown businesses will be open until 6:30 p.m. and Pend d’Oreille Winery will host the after party. Is there such a thing as too much fun?
Three venues feature local artists’ works. At the Columbia Bank Community Plaza (Third and Oak Streets), POAC’s 2019 Artist of the Year, Terrie Kremer will exhibit her exquisite quilts. The “Idaho Inspiration” artist reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“Terrie is a quilt artist and teacher who experiments with a wide variety of cutting edge techniques. Along with volunteering her teaching skills to POAC’s Kaleidoscope program and the Idaho Commission on the Arts, Terrie participated this year in ICA’s Artrepreneur program,” POAC’s executive director, Hannah Combs said.
POAC Gallery at Old City Hall, 110 Main St., will be the site for the fifth annual Winter Art Market. Opening this Friday, the market will be ongoing during the month featuring small artworks by POAC’s plethora of fine artists.
“People will be able to find the perfect locally handmade gifts for all of their loved ones,” Combs said of the event. “We’ll have paintings, jewelry and ceramics which will be augmented this year by unique handmade ornaments perfect for holiday decoration.”
The market will be open Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wine for the Friday afternoon reception will be provided by Pend d’Oreille Winery.
And, speaking of the winery, 301 Cedar St., they’ll once again be hosting the After Party from 6:30 to 8 p.m. You won’t want to miss seeing the work of talented, local artist Bill Klein. His artist statement reads, “Bill Klein’s artistic career was late in developing. Having no formal training, he experimented with oils throughout his college and Navy days.
“While pursuing a master’s in architecture at the University of Utah, he learned to look at the world, both built and natural environments, with new eyes. A whole new and exciting world of design, composition, and creativity was opened up, and watercolors became the medium of choice for many years to come.”
Bill Klein’s work will be on display at the winery through Dec. 27 and the winery is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. The Winter Art Market will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Dec. 27 and Terrie Kremer’s exhibit at Columbia Bank Community Plaza will be open through Jan. 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
