Timberlake runs past 5A foe

SPIRIT LAKE — Brooke Jessen scored 11 of her game-high 19 points in the first half for the 3A Timberlake Tigers in a 63-38 win over the 5A Lewiston Bengals on Saturday at Timberlake High.

Taylor Suko scored 15 points — all from the 3-point line — for Timberlake, which led 36-11 at halftime.

“We started the game on both ends really strong,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We were moving the ball around, finishing plays and covering the court really well on defense. We did a great job rebounding and limiting them to one shot.”

Timberlake beat Lewiston 51-42 on Nov. 23 in Lewiston.

Taryn Soumas had 14 points for Timberlake, which travels to Sandpoint on Thursday.

Caitlin Richardson scored 12 points for Lewiston (1-4).

SPOKANE VALLEY — Kendall Pickford hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 10 points for the Timberwolves in a loss to the Knights in the Border Clash at West Valley High.

“They’re one of the bigger teams we’ve played,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “I thought they were real physical and we didn’t match that as well as we should have. Our game with them last year was a good turning point, and exposed some things we need to work on. It was another good checkpoint to see where we are again.”

Brooklyn Rewers had nine points for Lake City (4-2), which travels to Lakeland on Tuesday.

Brie Holecek scored 19 points for East Valley.

SPOKANE VALLEY — The Hawks played even with the Eagles in the first quarter before the hosts eased away in the Border Clash.

“We ended up in a little bit of foul trouble,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “We ended up a little gassed, and just lost track of some of their better players.”

Katy Ryan had 16 points, 15 rebounds and two blocked shots for Lakeland (2-5). Addisen Kiefer had 10 rebounds, Darby McDevitt three assists.

Hailey Marlow scored 16 points, Nevaeh Sherwood 12 for West Valley.

“We struggled from the line the last two games,” said Seymour, whose team lost 61-33 to East Valley on Friday night. “Last night we were 6 for 21. Tonight it wasn’t quite that bad, but still under 50 (percent).”

Lakeland plays host to Lake City on Tuesday.

BONNERS FERRY — Jenna Holder scored nine of her game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Lumberjacks beat the Badgers in a nonleague game.

“We didn’t give them any second chance shots and really crashed the defensive boards,” St. Maries coach Kim O’Connor said. “It was back and forth the entire game, but we just kind of pulled away in the fourth quarter.”

Sami Badgett scored eight points for St. Maries (3-5), which visits Kellogg on Tuesday.

PENDLETON, Ore. — Lakeside led by one in overtime with 1.6 seconds left, but was whistled for a foul on a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Yakama player hit the first free throw, missed the second and hit the third for the win.

Tamara Anderson and Katannah Marchand each scored 10 points for Lakeside (3-1), which beat host Nixyaawii 53-45 on Friday as Jolissa Holt led the way with 15 points.

“It was a really good tournament for us; it was good playing against good competition,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “I liked how we never gave up today, even when things weren’t going perfect for us.”

Lakeside travels to Troy on Tuesday.
