Wrestling roundup: Moses Lake 2nd at Bob Mars Invite

KENNEWICK — Moses Lake finished with 11 placers and five champions to take second overall at the Bob Mars Invitational.
Reigning Class 4A state champion Chiawana was the tournament winner, amassing 273.5 points. Moses Lake was the only other team to eclipse 200 with 203.
“I was really pleased with the way our guys wrestled, for the most part,” head coach Jaime Garza said. “I liked the energy that they came out with.”
Othello scored 96 points to place sixth.
The Chiefs’ champions included Jeremiah Martinez (106), Ryan Grubb (126), Maximus Zamora (145), Cruz Vasquez (170) and Everett Ashley (220). Martinez pinned Jamie Alelandre of Zillah in the first round. Grubb, Vasquez and Ashley also won their final matches by fall.
Grubb pinned Pendleton’s Collin Primus, Vasquez pinned Kiona-Benton’s AJ Stewart and Ashley pinned Chiawana’s Cayetano Talavera. Hunter White was a tournament runner-up after losing to Lance Stover of Chiawana 5-3 in the 138-pound finals.
Othello’s two-time state champion Isaiah Perez began his season with a tournament victory in the heavyweight bracket. Perez outlasted Chiawana’s Colby Blasdel 6-2. Arturo Solorio was second in 152 pounds.
