Lake City rallies to topple Lakeland
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 years, 1 month AGO
RATHDRUM — Lakeland jumped on top of Lake City early, and led the 5A Timberwolves into the third quarter.
But foul trouble caught up to the 4A Hawks, and Brooklyn Rewers took over for the T-Wolves.
Rewers had 31 points and 15 rebounds, Kendall Pickford 13 points and seven assists and Jaya Miller four steals as Lake City rallied to beat Lakeland 55-40 in nonleague play Tuesday night at Hawk Court.
“Lakeland did a good job of jumping on us,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “I’m proud of the girls for fighting through it. I was really happy to see Brooklyn and Kendall step up in the fourth quarter and lead us the way they did.”
Rewers scored 10 of her 31 points in the fourth quarter for Lake City (5-2). She hit 11 of 12 free throws for the game.
Katy Ryan had 13 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots for Lakeland (2-6) before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter.
“That was a pretty good matchup inside between those two,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “We obviously put her on the free-throw line a little bit too much. The times Katy got in foul trouble and had to sit, they did a pretty good job of finding her.”
Mel Loutzenhiser added 10 points and five assists for Lakeland, which plays host to Lakeland of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., on Saturday.
“I was really, really pleased with our first half, and pleased with how we competed with them for all four quarters,” Seymour said.
Lake City travels to North Central on Friday.
