Bulldogs surge past Timberlake 55-45

SPIRIT LAKE — Sandpoint boys basketball trailed by four at halftime, but outscored Timberlake 16-4 in the third quarter to grab a 55-45 victory over the Tigers on Thursday night.
“Anytime you beat Timberlake at Timberlake it’s a big win ,” head coach Wade Engelson said. They’re a good program and they’re well coached.”
Senior Kobe Banks scored 13 points for the Bulldogs, senior Ryan Roos tallied 11 and freshman Arie VanDenBerg added 10 for Sandpoint.
Timberlake’s Jacob James scored a game-high 16 points for the Tigers (1-4), who battled back and had a chance to tie with a couple minutes left but missed a 3-pointer, then had to foul.
“Sandpoint extended its zone and was trapping us, and we didn’t respond well to the trap,” Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. “They forced us into turnovers and errant shots.”
Sandpoint (2-1) returns home to face Kellogg 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Les Rogers Court.
