CCS heading to state robotics tourney

Christian Center School competed in its third First Lego League (FLL) robotics regional competition on Dec. 7 in Bonners Ferry and kept its winning streak intact.
“Our students worked so hard and did a phenomenal job presenting solutions to real-world problems,” said Teresa Sacksteder, Christian Center School STEM instructor.
CCS sent three teams to compete and they all took home an award. The Legendary Lego Bro. earned the innovation project award for their lighted handicap project. The Lab Geeks came away with the robot design award, and the Brainstormers were awarded the championship award and will be competing in January at the state competition at the University of Idaho in Moscow.
FLL provides an opportunity for tomorrow’s innovators to practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult coaches, FLL teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS, then compete on a table-top playing field.
“I am so proud and impressed with these students. Our teams have won the championship award two years in a row,” stated Laszlo Antal, FLL adviser. The award is given to the team that ranks highest in all four categories.
Christian Center School has qualified for state all three of the years it has competed.
“We are so grateful for Mr. Antal’s expertise and coaching skills,” said Sacksteder, who also thanked Tiffany Mills and Jessica Hampsch, parents coaches.
