COEUR d’ALENE — "Traditions of Christmas" is marking its eighth annual appearance in the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene.
The holiday production opens tonight and runs through Dec. 23, with 7 p.m. shows and 3 p.m. matinees.
"Traditions of Christmas" is a Radio City Music Hall-style show that includes beautifully choreographed kickline tap numbers, Santa’s workshop, a heartfelt military tribute performance and a grand Nativity conclusion. It features a cast of 72 people and over 500 costumes.
The show is produced by Laura Little Theatricals. Little is the Broadway co-producer of the Tony Award-winning "Come From Away," currently on Broadway, as well as "Peter and the Starcatcher" and "First Date." She is also produced the off-Broadway show "All Is Calm" in 2018.
“Even if you’ve seen 'Traditions of Christmas before,' you won’t want to miss this performance,” Little said. "There is always a change or two to keep it fresh. We have added our most complicated number to date. It is a beautiful story telling song that ties in with the USO military scene. It consists of some challenging technology that has pushed our team and our talent… and our nerves. We are also bringing back some crowd favorites that we rotated out last year."
Rick Taylor and his wife Beth have returned as director and musical director. The choreography team is Brenda Blankenship working with the Kick Line, Jessi Little choreographing the Kids and performing in the Kick Line and Annie Stillar choreographing the Christmas Couples.
In an effort to slow down a bit, Laura Little has brought in co-producers to help on the show this year. Daniel and Marie Hunt, the founders of the new Red Bird Theater, are excited to be working on this project from the producing side as well as the performing side. Marie, Daniel and two of their children will be taking the stage.
