SPOKANE — A couple of steals and baskets by Devon Johnson put Coeur d’Alene ahead to stay midway through the fourth quarter, as the Vikings rallied past North Central 55-50 in nonleague play Thursday night.
Mayson Whittaker hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points for Coeur d’Alene (2-3). Johnson finished with 12 points, and drew a charge which negated a basket by North Central, and led to a hoop by Jack Prka with 30 seconds left to give the Vikings a three-point lead.
“We really started buckling down on defense in the second half,” Coeur d’Alene coach Tony Hanna said.
Coeur d’Alene, which played without starting point guard Luke McLaughlin for most of the first three quarters due to foul trouble, trailed by as much as 13 points.
Ayden Barnufsky scored 15 points for North Central (0-4).
