Marjorie Elizabeth DuPey, 87
Marjorie Elizabeth DuPey, 87, of Coeur d’Alene, went to Heaven on Dec. 6, 2019.
Margie was born to the late Marion and Marie Allen, Jan. 19, 1932, in Gordon, Neb. Born during the Great Depression, her family moved often during her elementary years and finally settled in Spokane Valley, Wash., where she met the love of her life, Ronald DuPey, at church at the age of 14. They were married Feb. 29, 1948, and soon started their family.
In 1949 they purchased a ranch in Colville, Wash., and moved there to raise their family. She went back to school and received her GED diploma at the same graduation ceremony as her oldest child in 1966. Margie became a sales clerk and worked at a variety of stores in Colville, including Fonk’s Variety, Safeway and Penny’s, then relocated to Kalispel, Mont., in 1985, where she worked for Herberger’s until she retired in 1993. At that time, she and Ron moved to Coeur d’Alene to spend their retirement years.
Margie was an active member of the Church of Christ and spent her life loving the Lord Jesus and all the people who came across her path! When her husband, Ron, passed away after 68 years of marriage she moved into Brookdale Assisted Living, where she became involved in any and all activities — because being involved with people was what she loved most.
Margie loved puzzles of all shapes and sizes, and was considered the “expert” in completing them!
She loved to travel. She took many special trips with the family, and later with Ron, to the Washington and Oregon coasts, as well as to Alaska.
Margie loved to play games and would join in with anyone! Her laugh is remembered by all and was a special form of encouragement to so many at Brookdale Retirement Home. She loved her Bible classes at Dalton Gardens Church of Christ, as well as interacting with all of her friends in the many classes offered at Brookdale. But, her favorite pastime was being with her family whenever she could. She also loved making cinnamon rolls to everyone’s delight!
Margie is survived by five children: Delores (Steve) Peterson of Spokane; Dan (Teri) DuPey of Coeur d’Alene; Marilyn (Lyle) Newell of Livingston, Mont.; Marleen (David) Bennett of Springtown, Texas; and Phil (Debra) DuPey of Medical Lake, Wash. She is also survived by one sister, Lola (Jim) Grant of Chattaroy, Wash.; four brothers: Wes (Julia) Allen of Fort Worth, Texas; Marv (Cookie) Allen of Addy, Wash.; Mel (Herminia) Allen of Fort Worth, Texas; and Mark (Corinne) Allen of Rathdrum. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister, Wilma Spence.
In lieu of flowers, Margie requested that donations be made to Coeur d’Alene Christian School.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at the Dalton Gardens Church of Christ. To see Margie’s online memorial and to leave a message for the family, please visit www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
