SPOKANE VALLEY — After a tough match in the semifinals, Coeur d’Alene senior Dom Jessos made short work of Hanford’s Austin Patton, winning the 120-pound championship by pin in 44 seconds at the Inland Empire Classic on Saturday at Central Valley High.
“Dom had a great weekend,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “The kid he beat in the semis (Nathaniel Tovar of Pasco, was a high state placer in Washington, and it was a really good win for him. In the finals, he took the kid down and slapped him in a cradle. He’s always been a tough wrestler, but this might light a fire under him. He wrestled solid all weekend and was never behind. I was really happy with how he competed.”
Kyle Bridge (106 pounds) and Hunter Schueller (132) finished fourth in their respective weight classes for Coeur d’Alene, which finished ninth with 102.5 points.
“Kyle’s a real athletic kid, and going to be tough,” Moffat said. “Everyone we brought fought hard and did really well, but we need to get the mistakes out of the way.”
Alex Edelblute was the top Lakeland finisher, taking second at 126 pounds. The Hawks were third with 207 points.
“We stumbled a bit in the semifinals,” said Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute, whose team won one of seven matches in the round. “We had three kids up with seconds left, and then they got caught out of position. It was a learning experience and they definitely know not to do it the next time and carry it into the state tournament.”
Peyton Wysong was fifth at 106 pounds, Tanner Korst fourth at 113, Riley Siegford third at 138, Carson Heim fourth at 145, Colton Johnson third at 152, Rhonin Edwards fourth at 152, Colton Boettcher third at 170, Hunter Oles fourth at 195 and Sam Feusier was third at 285 for Lakeland.
“All of them rebounded pretty well after the semifinals,” Edelblute said. “It’s just one of those learning curves that we’ll have to build on.”
Chiawana of Pasco won the tournament with 279.5 points, followed by Mead with 232.5.
Lakeland faces Lake City and Coeur d’Alene at Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday.

Lake City beat Shadle Park 69-6, Ephrata 52-27, East Valley 54-30 and Freeman 57-19 to advance to the championship match, where the Timberwolves beat Cheney 33-31.
“Our kids wrestled hard today,” said Lake City coach Corey Owen, whose team beat Post Falls 42-39 in a dual on Thursday. “And again, we let it come down to the last match, and got a pin at 126 (pounds). I think they’re purposely getting my blood pressure up.”
Lake City faces Kellogg and Lakeland on Wednesday at Coeur d’Alene High.
