CLARK FORK — The Lady Cats picked up their first win of the season Tuesday night over Noxon (Mont.) 42-40.
Clark Fork was able to capture the victory despite trailing 21-14 at the half. But it comes as no surprise to head coach Jordan Adams that her team had to complete a comeback to end a winless streak.
“I’ve been saying since day one, for whatever reason, our girls come out stronger in the second half,” Adams said. “At the end of the day, we’re young and there’s a certain mentality that comes with playing any sport especially basketball because there’s so much going on and sometimes younger kids it takes them a little bit to be like ‘OK this is the speed we’re going at tonight.’”
The teams went back and forth in the final eight minutes of the game but once the Lady Cats took the lead for the first time since the first quarter, they didn’t look back as senior Ellie Kiebert knocked down three key free throws down the stretch to send the Red Devils home with a loss.
Kiebert led the team with 15 points, 18 rebounds and five steals while sophomore Katelyn Matteson tallied 9 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals.
The Lady Cats (0-5) hit the road for their final contest before the Christmas break 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Post Fall JV.
