On Friday, Dec. 13, 20 Valley View class finalists for the Elks Hoop Shoot gathered to participate in the school competition. The shooters ranged from third grade to fifth grade, both boys and girls. They were full of anticipation and nerves, but everyone performed the best they could in front of parents and peers.

Taking top honors for the 8- to 9-year-old division were Brydin Weymer and Madalynn Beggerly. In the 10- to 11-year-old division, Peyton Hinthorn shot 22 out of 25 free throws to win. Just as impressively, Taren Bateman sank 21 out of 25 free throws.

All four school winners will compete at the next level in Sandpoint on Jan. 4, 2020.
