At Superior this past weekend, Western BC wrestlers from Mission-Charlo and Arlee competed at the Bob Kinney Classic. Mission-Charlo had eight placers, while Arlee notched a pair. The Bulldogs came within one bout of overtaking Cutbank in the team standings.

Taking top honors was Isaiah Allik (170), who was able to pin Camren Ross of Whitefish in just under four minutes during the championship bout. This is the second sequential tournament win for Allik, 9-0 thus far.

Both Isaac Dumontier (145) and Darwin Adams (152) advanced to the championship, but fell to a pair of top Class A wrestlers in the title tilt.

A quintet of Bulldogs who captured the consolation championship for third place include Canyon Sargent (132), Robert Dempsey (138), Ethan Diaz (160), Troy Matt (182) and Miles Anderson (205). Sargent and Diaz were tripped up along the way by Class A contenders, while Dempsey was rerouted in his opening match by the BC divisional runnerup last season from Plains/Hot Springs who was one match away from placing at the State BC meet.

For the Arlee Warriors, Colt Crawford (145) placed third, while Demetrix Austin (160) took fourth. Crawford wasted very little time in his opening match when he got the jump on the AA Kalispell Glacier Wolfpack grappler in under 20 seconds. He then rolled over those savings as he dispatched his next opponent, a BC divisional placer, before being rerouted into consolation by fellow Mission Valley grappler Dumontier of Mission-Charlo.

Both teams will compete in a mixer at Arlee Thursday. Arlee will close out the calendar year at the Eureka Duals this weekend, while Mission-Charlo will compete at the Corvallis Christmas Classic. The Warriors will have already engaged in a mixer with Florence this past Tuesday.

Pirate plaque preference Burger-larized by Bulldogs

At Smith Fields in Whitefish for the 2018 State A boys soccer championship, the Polson Pirates and the Northern A conference champion Bulldogs would put on quite a show in an energetic quest to claim the coveted state A crown last Saturday. This would be just the third foray to the championship match in the history of the Pirate boys’ soccer program, who hoped that the idiomatic expression “third time’s a charm” would play out in Polson’s favor.
