A 37-year-old Post Falls man accused of rape and lewd conduct with a minor after allegedly having sexual relationships with two teenage girls was arrested Tuesday by police as he attempted to flee authorities.
At his first court appearance Wednesday, Aaron T. Cain’s bail was set at $250,000. He was charged with three felonies, including rape, sexual battery of a minor and lewd conduct with a minor, which carry penalties of up to life behind bars.
Cain is accused of starting one relationship with a teenager when she was 14 and another relationship with a different girl when she was 16.
Post Falls police learned of the relationships after a cellphone with nude images was located by a family member. Both girls eventually disclosed their relationships with Cain, police said. One of the teenagers said he had twice raped her, according to police.
Cain, who lives in Post Falls but works in Airway Heights, Wash., tracked one of the teenager’s phones. When he learned the phone was spending a lot of time at the Post Falls Police Department — where investigators downloaded images and text messages — he did not return to Idaho, police said.
Authorities monitored highway cameras in an attempt to track Cain’s eastbound vehicle on Interstate 90, but police learned Cain didn’t return home from work Tuesday.
Instead, he called one of the alleged victims and asked her to return the phone to him, according to a report.
“Based on these facts, it is my professional opinion that Mr. Cain is on the run,” Det. Neil Uhrig of the Post Falls police wrote in a report.
Police said more than 1,000 nude images of Cain and an alleged victim were stored on the alleged victim’s iPhone.
The iMessages between the parties exceeded 9,000 pages, according to court records.
Prior to his arrest late Tuesday, police secured a warrant for Cain. His next court appearance is within 14 days if he stays in jail, or 21 days if he posts bail.
