COEUR d’ALENE — Post Falls High leads the 60-team field with 127 points after the first day of the 49th Tri-State Invitational at Christianson Gymnasium on the campus of North Idaho College.

Roddy Romero (106 pounds), Isaac Jessen (132), A.J. De La Rosa (145) and Ethan Miller (152) advanced to today’s semfinal round starting at noon for Post Falls, which leads Mead of Spokane, in second with 119 points.

Post Falls won Tri-State in 2014, ’15 and ’17, and was second in 2016 and last year.

Caden Hess (113) and Mahlon Clark (195) advanced to the semifinals for Lake City, which is eighth with 86 points.

Hunter Schueller (132), Drew Roberts (138) and Gunner Giulio (160) moved into the semis for Coeur d’Alene, which is ninth with 83.5 points.

“We left some points out there, but overall, the guys wrestled tough,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “It was good to see Gunner wrestling. He’s not in top shape yet either, but he’ll be tougher in the next month or two. Drew did his usual thing and scored a lot of points. Hunter had a great day, beat a kid from Bonners Ferry and pinned a kid from Crook County when he was trailing. It’s about time some good luck came his way. He’s one of the hardest-working kids in our wrestling room, and it’s good to see him back on the podium.”

The Vikings have five remaining in the consolation bracket.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in our guys to get some wins in the consolation rounds,” Moffat said.

Alex Edelblute (126) and Colton Boettcher (170) advanced to the semifinals for Lakeland, which is 13th with 65 points.

Timberlake, which has five in the consolation bracket, is 12th with 72 points.

Wrestling resumes today at 9 a.m., with championship finals scheduled for around 4:30 p.m.
