- GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lake City 41

Cheney 26

CHENEY — Solid defense led to enough easy scoring opportunities to put the visiting Timberwolves ahead, and they kept that advantage through a low-scoring second half to earn the nonconference win at Cheney.

“We played really solid defensively tonight,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We did a really good job guarding the ball, and that frustrated them a bit. It led to some fast-break scoring chances early in the game, and that helped get our offense going.”

Also providing plenty of offense was Timberwolves post player Brooklyn Rewers, who recorded a double-double of 22 points and 17 rebounds.

“Brooklyn’s really been getting after it; I’m really pleased with her effort,” Anderson added.

Emma Evans led the host Blackhawks with eight points.

Kendall Pickford added five points and seven assists, and Brenna Hawkins grabbed 10 rebounds for Lake City, which opens against Timberline at the TimberLion holiday tournament on Thursday.
