BONNERS FERRY — After the Veteran and First Responder Chili Feed on Jan. 5, the donations and proceeds went toward the Boundary County Community Restorium’s veterans and other former public servants.

Tom Chaney and his team wanted to show the senior veterans of not only military service, but first responder and dispatch services, that they may have retired, but are not forgotten.

The senior veterans were presented with packages containing a warm blanket, winter hats, and gloves. Recipients Don Dozier, Shelby Sharp, Bill McClive, Warren Scott, Rudy Costanzo, Lois Frazier, Edith Poelstra, Bunny Bennett, Alma Pitman, Dorene Rusho, Carol Pomeroy, and Pat Miles were grateful and surprised to receive the gift.

With money left over toward the cause, they have plans to locally craft benches which will be dedicated to veterans and first responders as well as garden boxes for the Restorium residents to enjoy.

The residents that received the gifts were unsuspecting, yet grateful, some even had tears in their eyes.

“We wanted to make sure they knew that all their services have not been forgotten,” said Cheney. “We appreciate everything they did.”
