MATTAWA — A man was robbed south of Mattawa Wednesday night after he reportedly attempted to assist a disabled vehicle occupied by two people.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred about 6:15 on Road S Southwest near Road 25 Southwest. The victim was reportedly confronted by a man carrying a knife, who robbed the victim by taking his wallet, which contained cash and credit cards. The victim was reportedly grabbed by the neck by one of the suspects during the robbery.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older Ford Explorer with dents and scratches on the passenger side. The suspect who brandished the knife is described as a heavy-set male, 6 feet tall and wearing a ski mask, a black sweatshirt and black pants. A description of the second suspect is not currently available.

“To help reduce risk of harm, the public is encouraged to dial 911 if they witness a motorist who they believe needs assistance,” stated the sheriff’s office.
