BONNERS FERRY — Kenny David Corsi, a former South Boundary Fire Protection District commissioner who was charged in April 2018 with seven counts of rape and one count of sexual battery of a minor child, 16 or 17 years of age, has a new date set for his four-day jury trial.

Corsi remains free on his own recognizance and he has pleaded not guilty.

His accuser, who is now 18, is suing South Boundary Fire Protection District for $500,000, claiming the district failed to implement reasonable safeguards while she was a volunteer fireman trainee.

According to the tort claim, Commissioner Corsi “abused his power and authority over Claimant to coerce her into a compromised position where he could statutory rape her and otherwise sexually assault her.”

In response to the tort claim, Peter Erbland, attorney for South Boundary Fire Protection District, said a review of all records of when Corsi and the claimant were on District property found they were not there at the same time.

“There is absolutely no evidence that Corsi’s misconduct occurred on district property,” said Erbland. “The was no evidence that the District was aware, or had reason to believe, that Corsi would have had this kind of conduct with a minor.”

The delay in the Kenny Corsi jury trial has had an impact on the alleged victim and her family.

“What happened to our child was, and continues to be, devastating,” wrote Jim and Kelly Crowder, the parents of the alleged victim. “Our family continues to wait for the conclusion in this horrific chapter of our daughter’s life. This has been very crippling to our daughter’s young life and has forever changed her future.”

The date for the four day jury trial is now set for April 9, at 9 a.m.
