Shiffrin wins record 4th Slalom World Championship – Mikaela Shiffrin had another big week at the World Championships in Are, Sweden, with a Bronze in Giant Slalom and Gold in Slalom. The slalom race was particularly challenging given she had a chest infection and couldn’t breathe fully.

Paula Moltzan placed 18th in the Slalom. Ted Ligety led the men with an 11th place showing in Giant Slalom. He was followed closely by Tommy Ford in 12th and Ryan Cochran-Siegle in 21st.

EEYSL, No. 3 – The youth ski league was hosted by Mount Spokane for two days of slalom competition last weekend.Unfortunately Saturday’s results were not available at press time.

On Sunday Jeru Gidley continued his dominance of the U10 Division with another gold medal. He was followed by his teammate, Dakota Landwehr who finished fourth. Logan Johnston took silver for U8 boys, while Wyatt Lemon was 12th.

On the girls’ side, Elaina Stiller took gold amongst U8 Girls, Halle Wyman was the 6th place U10 girl and Hannah Stiller finished 12th amongst the U12 girls. Other local racers were Rhys Taylor and Faith Stephany.

Starlight – With one week left until the final tallies, it was “game on” last Friday night. Soft snow made for deep ruts that didn’t deter the competitors.

The fastest racers in the track, by category, were: Alo Pucci and Kelly Farmin (Alpine); Ezra Stafford and Dig Chrismer (Telemark); Shawn Taylor and Dani Demmons (snowboard). Nate Demmons continued to rip on the monoski.

However the two fastest individuals after handicaps for age, gender, means of conveyance, etc. were John Kochevar and Melinda Rossman.

The all-important team standings going into the final week have “Pucci Totcho Libres” in first place, followed very closely by “TOTE” and “Fabulous.”

Next Friday decides it all: Winners will be announced at the big finale party in Taps.
