A 5-year-old child from Kila has died after being accidentally struck by a vehicle driven by a family member on Tuesday, according to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Hoffman Draw around 3:48 p.m. It is believed the vehicle was coming out of the driveway of a residence when the child was struck, according to Sheriff Brian Heino. CPR was performed on the child at the scene. Smith Valley Fire Department transported the child to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and moved into the pediatric intensive care unit, where the child died later that night.

The child’s name has not been released.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this time,” Heino said.
