For the second holiday in a row, the Shining Mountains Chapter of the Montana Wilderness Association has donated canned goods to the Community Food Bank of Mineral County.

The goods were collected during the chapter’s holiday party and delivered to the Mineral Community Hospital, one of the collection points for the holiday food drive.

“We are grateful for the friendships we have built with our neighbors in Mineral County while hiking on public lands. This is a small way for our members to say ‘thank you’ and to show support for Mineral County residents who need help during this holiday season,” said Daphne Herling of Missoula, the chapter’s president.

The Community Food Bank in Superior provided 9,888 pounds of food to 230 households during November.

“We’re holding on,” said Marlene Adair, manager of the Community Food Bank. Even though she stocked up in advance of Thanksgiving, “We emptied the shelves a bit.”

Trucks arrive every six weeks with food and she buys food as needed between deliveries. “Everything helps,” Adair said.
