Holly Ansley’s 21 points matched Priest River’s team scoring output in Bonners Ferry’s 52-21 win over the Spartans on Friday night.

“It was tough coming off of two weeks of Christmas break without any games,” Priest River head coach Morgan Douglas said. “I don’t think our girls were mentally ready although we had so much time to prepare. We weren’t awake to start the game.”

Priest River didn’t get on the board until the 5:48 mark of the second quarter. By that time, the Badgers had a 20-2 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

Despite the slow start, the Spartans showed signs of life thanks to Makia Fitzmorris (whose six points led the team), Liann Kren’s outside shooting and Abby Barnes’ ability to drive into the lane.

Bonners Ferry scored the majority of its points off turnovers, as Ansley, Maecie Liermann and Grace Villelli forced 15 Spartan turnovers in the first half alone.

Jasmine Martin and Kren also chipped in four points apiece for Priest River.

Priest River (1-8) will look for its first league win against Kellogg on Jan. 8.

Bonners Ferry, meanwhile, moves to 11-2 on the season with a 1-0 record in league play.
