Bonners Ferry girls open league play with a win

BONNERS FERRY — The Lady Badgers opened up Intermountain League play jumping out to a 18-0 first quarter lead on their way to a convincing 52-21 win over the visiting Priest River Spartans on Jan. 4.

Holly Ansley lead the way with 21 points, making 10 of her 13 field goal attempts. Baylee Blackmore also shot well, making 4 of her 5 field goals to go along with 5 of 6 makes from the free throw line on her way to 13 points. Jerzie Pluid added 10 points.

Offensively the Badgers shot 42 percent, making 21 of 50 shots, and were 82 percent from the free throw line, making 9 of 11. Defensively they held the Spartans to one field goal in the second half and 5 total for the game.

The Lady Badgers improve to an 11-3 overall record and are 1-0 in league play. The Wildcats of Kellogg visit the Badger Den on Saturday, Jan. 12, with varsity girls tip-off at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys to follow.

Lady Badgers struggle at Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Taryn Soumas scored 17 points, including four 3-pointers, as she led the Timberlake Tigers to a 66-37 victory over the visiting Badgers on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Blayre Jeffs, a 6-foot-5 post, added 14 points for the Tigers, who are ranked #2 in the Idaho 3A state rankings.
