COEUR d’ALENE — A 23-year-old Post Falls man who allegedly shot at Rathdrum police and led deputies on a pursuit that ended in Hayden will have a preliminary hearing within 14 days in Coeur d’Alene’s First District Court.

Christian A. Reynolds was arrested with more than a quarter-ounce of heroin, according to deputies, after his vehicle was disabled using spike strips on Government Way in Hayden near Paul Bunyan.

Before being stopped around 1 a.m. Saturday, Reynolds had pushed his red Honda Civic to speeds of more than 90 miles per hour including 70 mph in residential areas and almost struck two deputies with his car, according to reports.

Reynolds was charged Monday in magistrate’s court with 10 felonies including eluding, three counts of aggravated assault on police, trafficking heroin, two counts of destruction of evidence and for being a felon with a gun.

Rathdrum police began pursuing Reynolds on Diagonal Road northeast of Rathdrum after midnight and reported that Reynolds may be shooting at them. The pursuit headed south on Ramsey before veering onto southbound U.S. 95 and into Hayden. Deputies reported that Reynolds chucked items from his car as he drove south. More than a dozen officers were involved in the chase, that had Reynolds driving through yards near the Hayden Lake Country Club.

After the Civic struck the spike strips, a Kootenai County K9 dove through the car window and subdued Reynolds. Deputies recovered discarded items including drugs and a .45-caliber shell and magazine inside the Civic, according to reports. More than 12.2 grams of heroin, syringes and paraphernalia were also seized.

Because Reynolds would not concede to having his skin tested for powder residue to indicate he discharged a handgun, possibly at deputies, he was in custody with bags over his hands as deputies awaited a search warrant to perform the tests, according to a report.

An investigation Sunday along the travel route, had not turned up a handgun.

Reynolds told authorities he had spent several days prior to his arrest doing drugs.
