An investigation is ongoing for a Polson fire last week.

According to Polson City Fire Chief Clint Cottle, at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, PCFD was dispatched to the 500 block of Main Street for the report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, crews found an apartment complex with one unit fully engulfed.

Polson Police officers removed the apartment occupant and evacuated the remaining units before fire crews arrived.

The occupant of the apartment was transported to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center by Polson Ambulance, where they were treated “for unspecified injuries.”

The identity of the occupant was not released.

The fire extended to the attic area of the multi-unit building, and was under control with most of the fire damage contained to the initial unit.

Neighboring units received smoke and water, and had ceiling removal, Cottle said.

Both PPD and the Montana State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting PCFD with an investigation, Cottle confirmed.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist with displaced residents, and worked with the building manager to secure temporary living arrangements.

Assisting in the call were Polson Rural Fire, Finley Point Fire Department, Lake County Office of Emergency Management, Lake County Dispatch, Polson Emergency Services, PPD, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Red Cross.
