POST FALLS — It never hurts to have a little talk.

A Post Falls Police officer on routine patrol Tuesday morning stopped in the parking lot of the Walmart on Mullan Avenue, where there is a history of suspicious activity, to speak with two people.

The friendly conversation erupted into a pursuit, by vehicle and on foot, and ended with the arrest of the man and woman.

John Glenn Burnley, 33, Spokane, was being held at the Kootenai County Jail Thursday on combined warrants of $300,000 for obstructing, eluding, possession of paraphernalia and as a fugitive from justice due to charges in another state.

Kristie Dianne Adrian, 28, Spokane, was being held at the jail on a $300 bond for providing false information to a police officer and possession of paraphernalia.

"As the officer received a 'no return' (from dispatch) on the names given, (Burnley) took off (in a vehicle) at a high rate of speed on Mullan," Post Falls Police Capt. Jason Mealer said.

The vehicle pursuit ensued on Highway 41 and westbound Interstate 90.

While on I-90, the suspects threw items from the vehicle before finally coming to a stop near the Greensferry overpass, according to police.

Burnley fled on foot, but was arrested a short time later.

Mealer said fences along the interstate limited the direction Burnley could run. The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office assisted in the incident.

- In a separate eluding case, also in Post Falls on Tuesday, Hal Meyer, 56, Post Falls was arrested for eluding and DUI. He was also cited for speeding and running a red light.

Meyer was allegedly traveling 70 mph in a 35 mph zone at Seltice Way and Goude Street around 9:30 p.m., Mealer said.

Meyer allegedly drove through a red light before coming to a stop, Mealer said. When an officer attempted to speak to Meyer, the suspect drove off before stopping about a mile later at Schneidmiller and Greensferry. He was arrested without further incident.
