LEWISTON — Junior guard Dawson Driggs scored most of her career-high 19 points during Sandpoint’s second-half comeback against the Lewiston Blue Devils, but Sandpoint fell 56-44 on Monday afternoon.

“Dawson not only helped us score a lot, but also helped us break their press,” Sandpoint head coach Will Love said. “She did a good job of attacking the basket; she had a couple and-ones that were pretty big [in the third].”

Although Lewiston’s press threw Sandpoint off in the first quarter, the Bulldogs didn’t back down. Led by good off-ball movement and a resurgence on defense, the Bulldogs battled back, pulling within five points in the fourth quarter.

“I wish we would’ve done enough to win this game, but once the girls got their feet under them, they battled,” Love said. “It was something we were really excited to see, and we’re looking forward to the next couple games.”

Kendyll Kinzer and Caitlan Richardson scored 15 apiece for the Blue Devils, while Hattie Larson added eight for the Bulldogs.

Sandpoint’s 5A IEL tour continues against Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday.
