County hoop teams in action; Kovalsky, Green tourney titlists

Clark Fork Mountain Cats

Clark Fork played Thompson Falls last Friday, Jan. 18 in Superior. In the girls’ game, Thompson Falls beat the Lady Cats, 47-32. Sophia Krutilla paced Clark Fork with eight points. Megan Baxter had 20 and Jody Detlaff 18 for the Lady Hawks.

In the boys’ game, Thompson Falls topped the Cats 59-47.

Grant Lundberg scored 18 points and Kade Pardee added 15 to lead Thompson Falls. Aaron Waddle topped the Clark Fork scoring with 16 points. Individual stats were not available.

Last Thursday, Jan. 17, Clark Fork challenged Drummond in an away game. The in the girls’ game, the Lady Cats lost in a close game, 48-45.

In the boys’ game, Drummond topped Clark Fork, 54-32, behind 17 points from Jonah Parke. Luke Holland added 10. Danner Haskins scored 12 points to lead the Mountain Cats. Individual stats not available.

St. Regis Tigers

On Jan. 17, St. Regis teams traveled to Charlo where the Lady Tigers lost, 49-31. Bailey Pruitt led St. Regis is nine points. Kaitlin Cox had 15 points for Charlo and Live Smith added 11.

In the boys’ game, Charlo beat St. Regis 57-45 as Landers Smith tallied 17 points. Connor Koenig added 16 and Nate Delaney scored 10. Adam Ball scored 14 points to lead St. Regis and Ian Farris added 13. Individual scores not available.

The Tigers were scheduled to face Victor last Saturday, Jan. 19, but games were cancelled.

Wrestling

Trey Green and Isaiah Kovalsky were champions from the Clark Fork Mountain Cats at the 10-team annual Ted Kato Invitational held last Saturday at Thompson Falls High School.

Green placed first in the 182-pound class and Kovalsky won at 145 pounds.

Making the consolation finals were Jacob Lapinski, who placed third in 285 pounds and Thomas Anderson, who was fourth at 152.

Mission/Charlo made a late charge to claim the team crown, finishing with 112 points. The Flathead junior varsity was runner-up with 107.5 points.Missoula Big Sky JV came in third (101), followed by Plains/Hot Springs (98.5), Thompson Falls/Noxon (92), Clark Fork (82), Missoula Sentinel JV (81), Glacier JV (55), Arlee (48) and Bigfork (25).

Some of the larger schools in the tournament did not bring full squads.

This is the final week of the regular season for Montana high school wrestlers. The Cats will travel to the Thompson Falls Quad this Thursday, Jan. 24 with Divisionals also in Thompson Falls on Saturday, Feb. 2.
