PINEHURST — A night of fun family fitness recently took place at Pinehurst Elementary School earlier this month.

The night was part of the school’s continual effort to provide activities for students and their families to interact with the school and its staff.

According to school officials, PES physical education teacher Callie Hegbloom organized the entire event. Her coordination with fellow staff members and other local businesses made the night a huge success.

“The night went great,” said PES principal Mike Groves. “The outside businesses and 20-plus volunteers made it fun and run smooth. We had approximately 100 folks show up and the overwhelming opinion was that it was a fun, informative night. The booths ran by local businesses were very popular.”

This year Silver Valley Fitness, Lake City Gymnastics, Cornerstone Yoga and the Wellness Center all donated their time to help out with the event.

“Callie did an amazing job,” Groves said. “She got with local organizations, as well as school staff to set up stations that demonstrated various activities that encourage folks to be active.”

In addition to the other activities, there were other PE-type activities, including a rope climb, free throw shooting, shuttle run, scooter races, push up event and hula hoops.

After running for a few years, the event was in need of some slight overhaul and Hegbloom did an outstanding job getting the event on a trajectory that Groves believes will help it grow consistently in the future.

“Callie has done a great job revamping this event,” Groves said. “She came up with the idea to include outside businesses that focus on fitness and wellness. Attendance has been increasing each year at the event now due to the positive things being said by participants.”
