Noxon came out on the short end of the scoring in a pair of District 14C girls’ basketball road contests last week.

The Lady Devils fell behind St. Regis early, and the Lady Tigers earned a 40-30 victory on Friday. Noxon dropped a 37-18 decision at Charlo on Saturday, despite holding the Lady Vikes to 20 points through the first three quarters.

Noxon is 2-6 in District 7B play and 6-9 overall going into Friday’s home game against Hot Springs. Noxon plays Saturday at Arlee, the first-place team in the district.

St. Regis played well early, leading Noxon 14-4 after one quarter. Struggling on the offensive end, the Lady Devils netted single-digit numbers in the first three periods.

“The girls have to figure out a way to start these games better,” Noxon head coach Ryan Weltz said. “It’s lack of confidence, lack of experience. We gained a few points in the second and fourth quarters.”

There was quite a disparity at the free-throw line. While St. Regis was 13-for-22, Noxon had just three foul shots, making one.

“We outscored St. Regis in field goals,” Weltz said.

“We did a pretty decent job on the boards,” the coach said. “We managed to kind of limit our turnovers. To their credit, they (the Lady Tigers) came out hot, then hit some threes. We got on our heels.”

Delaney Weltz had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Kali Murray had eight rebounds. Avery Burgess had four steals, and Chelsea Vohs added three.

Madison Kelly led St. Regis with 14 points.

NOXON HELD Charlo to just 13 first-half points, but was able to score just five — going scoreless in the second period.

“We were in the game for two or three quarters,” Weltz said. “But typical Charlo, they get you down and beat you up and you’re down by 20 (points) … We gave it a good effort … You have to do more than play defense.”

Noxon was 2-for-11 from the foul line and Charlo was 7-for-15.

Senior guard Kristina Brown missed last week’s Noxon games, according to Weltz, and the date of her return is unknown. “They put a monkey wrench into our weekend,” he said.

Delaney Weltz had nine points for the Lady Devils. Emily Brown, one of two eight-graders playing on the Noxon varsity team, had two steals.

Destiny Manuel led Charlo with 11 points. Carlee Fryberger added nine.
