BONNERS FERRY — Boundary County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 20-year old Shykeim Daquan Chavis on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 23 on a $75,000 felony warrant for a robbery charge out of Kootenai County.

According to the Sheriff’s Report, they obtained information from Coeur d’Alene Police Officer Joseph Scholten that Chavis was possibly in Boundary County. An investigation followed, leading to the discovery that Chavis was allegedly living with his girlfriend in an apartment on U.S. 95.

Sheriff’s deputies and a Bonners Ferry Police sergeant attempted to serve Chavis the warrant at 6 p.m., but he was not at the residence. Boundary County Sheriff’s Detective Caleb Watts followed Chavis’s girlfriend south on U.S. 95 until she turned on to Sandridge Road where he watched her drive to her grandfather’s residence.

“We pulled into the driveway and I noticed two vehicles parked with the engine still running on one of the vehicles,” Watts wrote in the Sheriff’s report.

After clearing each vehicle, they approached the house. Chavis’s girlfriend came out of the residence and she allegedly told them that Chavis was in the trunk of her car. According to the Sheriff’s report, they were able to retrieve Chavis from the vehicle and he was cooperative.

“Chavis told me that he knew he had a warrant and was glad that we arrested him, because he was tired of hiding,” wrote Watts in the report.

Chavis was then transported to the Boundary County Jail by Boundary County Deputy Mike Valenzuala without incident and booked for the warrant.

“I am proud of the great job that the deputies did in tracking down and arresting this wanted person,” said Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer.
