Reiners leads Polson to fifth

Led by individual state champion Julia Reiners, Polson finished in fifth place at the Class A Speech, Debate and Drama State Tournament.

The competition was held Jan. 25-26 in Belgrade.

Coach Robert DiGiallonardo stated that last year, the team finished in fourth place.

Individual state placings include: Davis Smith, second, Lincoln Douglass debate; Violet Anderson, fifth, Impromptu; Julia Reiners, first, and Taylor Bloomfield, fifth, Original Oratory; Joe McDonald and Hali Tyler, sixth, Dramatic Oral Interpretation; Tayler Owners, seventh, Humorous Oral Interpretation; and David Castillo, seventh, Dramatic Oral Interpretation.

According to DiGiallonardo, it was “a very solid year for the Pirates.”

Polson woman pleads not guilty to homicide

Danielle Jeanette Wood pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide during a video arraignment Tuesday before Lake County District Court Judge Deborah “Kim” Christopher at the Sanders County Courthouse in Thompson Falls. Wood is charged with deliberate homicide in connection with the death of Thompson Falls resident Matthew LaFriniere in May 2018.
