BONNERS FERRY — On the drizzly fall day of Oct. 13, 2017, a sign of patriotism rose over the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office during a ceremony, as the American flag was drawn up a flagpole donated by the Idaho Forest Group (IFG).

This last Monday, July 1, a plaque thanking IFG was placed at the base of the flagpole, and a new flag was hoisted into the air, to wave gently in the summer breeze.

Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer had initially reached out to IFG and asked if they could donate a flagpole from one of their locations.

“What we did instead was just buy them a new one, as a way to show our active participation in the community,” said Chris Pease, regional manager for Idaho Forest Group. “It is really important to the Idaho Forest Group that we are good neighbors in our community.”

As the employees of IFG raised the new flag into the air and the old flag was retired, a lone man stood in the background on the sidewalk, hand over heart.

“It has been really neat to see this sign of patriotism and sign of our community,” said Pease, looking up at the flag waving against the bright blue sky.
