OTHELLO — This month, the Old Hotel Art Gallery is honoring one of their founding members, Gladys Para, as their artist of the month.
“It is as if she was the featured artist, but with more of a museum-style for this month,” said Jenn Stevenson. “There are items of hers and stories or pieces that represent her.”
Para came from a homesteading family. She was active as an Othello historian and volunteered for many groups. She has been named Citizen of the Year by the Othello Chamber of Commerce in the past.
She will be honored again on Saturday, June 13. The Othello City Council and Mayor Shawn Logan have named Saturday Gladys Para Day.
From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Old Hotel Art Gallery will be hosting a scavenger hunt and other activities, all revolving around Para and the Old Hotel. There will be a reception at 2 p.m. at Reichert’s Showhouse, 130 N. Broadway, in Othello. During the reception, the official city proclamation will be read. There will also be a slideshow and stories. Refreshments will follow at the Old Hotel Art Gallery.
“We are also looking for any community members to share their stories, remembrances and more about Gladys,” said Stevenson. “Please stop by or email us with this information.”
