Coeur d'Alene teams fall in Game 1 of best-of-3 series

Southwest Ada from the Boise area rallied to beat Coeur d’Alene 7-6 in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the state championship Friday evening at Croffoot Park in Hayden.

Ian Novosel hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to tie the game at 6, and Colton Deatherage hit an RBI single to drive in the go-ahead run. Colt Dennis made a diving catch in center field in the bottom of the sixth to end the game with two Coeur d’Alene runners in scoring position.

Kyle Johnson hit a solo home run for Coeur d’Alene. Cason Miller struck out four in three shutout, hitless innings, and Lars Bazler hit a two-run double.

Game 2 is today at noon, with Coeur d’Alene needing a win to force a Game 3 on Sunday at noon.

The state champion advances to the Northwest Regional Aug. 4-10 in San Bernardino, Calif.

Easton Gothberg threw a shutout with just one walk as West Valley of Eagle, Star and Middleton beat Coeur d’Alene 13-0 in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the state title at Croffoot Park. Nate Johnson hit a two-run double and Dallin Snooks homered for West Valley.

Kolbie Wilson went 2 for 3 for Coeur d’Alene, and Blake Foulk doubled.

Game 2 is today at noon, with Coeur d’Alene needing a win to force a Game 3 on Sunday at noon.

10U

Dallas Richardson singled and tripled and drove in two runs as Lewiston beat West Valley 8-2 in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the state championship at Croffoot Park. Kayden Cox doubled in the win.

Colin Brazil hit an RBI double for West Valley.
