Post Falls man struck by car on U.S. 95

A Post Falls man trying to retrieve a lost item on U.S. 95 north of Athol on Sunday was struck by a car and later airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Idaho State Police reported.

According to ISP, a white 2001 Ford F150 pickup was pulled over on the southbound shoulder of 95 at milepost 455, approximately 5 miles north of Athol, around noon. One of the occupants, Nicholas Eloe, 19, exited the vehicle and attempted to recover the lost item in the lane of travel.

A black 1999 Toyota Tacoma driven by Emma Hustis, 23, of Gunnison, Colo., was traveling southbound on 95 and struck Eloe in the lane of travel. The highway was partially blocked for two hours.

The occupants of the Toyota were wearing seatbelts and not injured.

The investigation continues, ISP said.
