Ronald F. McCormick, 86, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Lori Morton officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery under the auspices of Lakeside Masonic Lodge No. 42 A.F. & A.M., followed by military honors. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday evening at the Lakeview Funeral Home.
Ron was born on July 24, 1932, in Klamath Falls, Ore., the only child of Wilbur and Mabel McCormick. He graduated from Union High School in 1950, where he won state championships in football, basketball and track. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in forestry at Oregon State University. Ron was one of the few drafted into the Navy where he served as a Seabee in Alaska.
Ron married Joan Garity on February 27, 1957, in Boise, Idaho. He worked as a forester for Mount Emily Lumber Co. in LaGrande, Ore., then Boise Cascade in Salem, then Hedlund Lumber Co. in Sandpoint in 1965. In 1980 Ron became the resource manager for McFarland Cascade in White Sulphur Springs, Mont. In 1984, he and Joan bought the Stove Coral in Sandpoint, they retired in 1993.
Joan passed away in 2004. Ron then married Sharon (Jaquish) Rench on March 11, 2006 in Hope, ID, and they made their home in Sagle.
Ron was a member of First Lutheran Church, B.P.O.Elks No. 1376, and served as director of the East-West Shrine Football Game. He was a 64-year Mason, member of Lakeside Lodge No. 42 A.M. & A.F. where he served five times as Worshipful Master, five-time District Deputy Grand Master for the state of Idaho Grand Lodge, 50-year member of the Calam Shrine, Past President of the Panhandle Shrine Club, and was a member of both the York Rite and Scottish Rite masonic bodies. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, history, attending his grandchildren’s activities and was a great Oregon State University booster.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sharon McCormick of Sandpoint; his son, Greg (Pam) McCormick of Longview, Wash.; two daughters, Mindi (Doug) Bradetich of Sagle, Idaho, and Terri (Cliff) Benda of St. Maries, Idaho; six grandchildren, Taylor and Alex McCormick, Stacey Bradetich, Amy (Paul) Gunter, Erin Bradetich, and Adam (Kelsi) Benda; four great-grandchildren, Ret, Chandler, Coe and Lyla. Also surviving are Sharon’s children, Deanna (Craig) Harris of Sandpoint, Gary (Tammi) Rench of Sandpoint, and Susan Rench (Jim Picket) of Boise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Joan McCormick.
