Little hits it big with daughter in 'First Date'

Laura Little just wanted one more “First Date.”
The show, that is.
The curtain goes up Thursday on the musical comedy at the Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn, 506 W. Appleway Ave.
Little, the show’s producer, has co-producing credits from “First Date” when it first premiered on Broadway in August 2013. She previously worked as the director of the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre and helped produce “First Date” when the Summer Theatre originally brought the show to Coeur d’Alene in 2014.
“I had access to some of the cast and I knew that I wanted to start slowing down as a producer, not retire though slow down,” Little told The Press on Tuesday. “I just wanted to do ‘First Date’ one more time.”
Little’s interest in theater began when she was 8 and played Happy in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” She discovered she loved the theater but prefers backstage work. She began reviewing plays at age 17.
Little said she enjoys seeing her hard work pay off after months of work.
“Believe it or not, I do love that it is project-based,” she said. “You work really hard for three months, then watch everything you have done. There’s a beginning and an end, and I get to produce and pick what moves [me] and my community.”
Little’s daughter, Jessi Little, will be playing Casey, the lead artsy female in the play who is going on a blind date with the quirky Aaron. It’s Jessi’s first lead with her mother as producer. The two have agreed their shared love of the theater has strengthened their mother-daughter bond.
“I think a lot of people can understand it’s mostly great to work with family, but sometimes you butt heads because you are close and family,” Jessi said. “But we connect on a level that goes back my entire life. We understand each other.”
The audience can expect to laugh, but the show also brings out unexected heartfelt moments, Jessi said.
“It flows really well and it goes by quickly,” she said. “I think it’s really fun and a really funny show where everyone has a character they can relate to.”
Those wanting to enjoy the show only can purchase tickets at $35 for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 2 p.m. Sunday or 7:30 p.m. Sunday. For dinner and a show, guests can purchase tickets at $55 for 7:30 p.m. Friday or Saturday.
Tickets can be purchased at the Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn, by calling 208-765-3200 or online: www.lauralittletheatricals.com
